NDTMS in Prisons

The NTA have commissioned the DTMU to manage the NDTMS in Prisons Project across the South of England, including establishments in the South East, London, South West and Eastern regions. Overall the DTMU will be responsible for delivering the necessary NDTMS training to 69 Prisons including Young Offenders Institutes and a limited number of immigration removal centers (four of which have received Department of Health Funding).

A number of Prisons (11 in the Southern Hub)  have been selected from each region to act as ‘Early Adopters’, which means that they will be starting to submit data to NDTMS on the 1st February 2012. All non-early adopters will be starting to submit to NDTMS from 1st April 2012.

With such a large number of prisons to cover and the ‘Go Live’ date for the majority of establishments being the 1st April 2012 we are expecting that the majority of our two NDTMS In Prisons Data Managers time will be spent travelling around the regions delivering training to the Substance misuse teams (CARATs and Clinical) and engaging with other stakeholders including regional NTA teams and commissioners.

Lucy Nicholson is one of our Data Managers and has experience of working with prisons in the South East of England as part of the previous data collection and data quality initiatives; more recently she has been working with the community teams to provide them with support to their NDTMS data submissions and quality.

Samantha McBeth joined the DTMU as a Data Manager for the NDTMS in prisons project in December 2011. Sam has 3 years experience working at SPH on several contracts with a variety of health care professionals across the NHS.
